About the only.bible project

only.bible is a website for reading the Bible online. It brings together dozens of translations in many languages, and many of them come with audio. The site is free: no ads, no paid sections, no sign-up. It works in the browser on any device — phone, tablet or computer.

History

The project started on 23 October 2003 under the name Bible Online. From 2009 its main address was bibleonline.ru for almost ten years. In 2015 the project gained the domain bible.ru — one of the oldest names on the Russian internet. In 2022 the project moved to only.bible and now bears that same name; Bible Online remains its historical name.

Addresses

The site lives at only.bible. Because of internet blocking in Russia, a copy of the site runs on a server located in Russia at bible.ru. The former address bibleonline.ru still leads to the project.

All project addresses work over HTTPS only.

Who makes it

My name is Leonid Sopov. In 2001 I met Christians and spent a year looking into what they believe. In the autumn of 2002 I gave my heart to Christ, and in the autumn of 2003 the first version of this site appeared under the name Bible Online. The name turned out to be too generic: we were constantly confused with another site, and everyone wanted to call themselves Bible Online — just as many new translations call themselves a “Modern Translation”. So I renamed the site after its domain: only.bible.

Reading the Bible, I see that it must spread and reach the ends of the earth. So I decided that the internet is what can help make that happen. The desire of my heart is that anyone can read the Bible in their own language, without obstacles and without paying.

What I believe is on the What we believe page.

All these years I have been putting my family’s own money into the project. Whether there are people who support it or not, this ministry will go on. If you would like to take part in our ministry, visit the Support the project page.
