Historical Plan

In this plan, the Old Testament readings follow the order of the Hebrew Bible — Law, then Prophets, then Writings — much as they would have been read in ancient Israel. The New Testament order follows research on the sequence in which its books were written; the conclusions aren't final, but they can offer a different angle on the reading. Robert Roberts' Plan

Robert Roberts (1839–1898) compiled this plan around 1853; it was later published as the book "The Bible Companion." Three readings a day, 15–20 minutes (about four chapters on average): over a year, the Old Testament is read once and the New Testament twice.
